what is fairy kei fashion?

What is fairy kei Fashion?

The different forms and styles of fairy kei
by Nate' Turner

hello everyone i would like to introduce to you my most beloved and favorite fashion called fairy kei (pronounced fairy kay) by first telling you What is fairy kei fashion? well my definition of fairy kei fashion is a lovely cute fashion from Japan and that I think ( don't qoute me on this) created by Sayuri Tavuchi or Tavuchi the owner of 80s styled fairy kei stores spank. fairy kei includes pastel colors (doesn't usually include dark color but sometimes used in spank style fairy kei ) tutus, pants, leggings, pastel hair( usually a wig is worn but pastel hair is not needed to be fairy kei) pastel accessories and cute characters . vintage pastel sweater are very popular in fairy kei fashion but is very hard to find so if you find one you are lucky. Some hobby's that are related to fairy kei are collecting 80s and 90s pastel toys and diy-ing your own fairy kei clothing and accessories. There are different ways to wear fairy kei and in this post i will walk you through the different types of fairy kei style but Before I do read this. This is the way I connect fashion styles together kinda like a family tree. Decora is the mother of spank the store and 80s version of fairy kei. Spank is the mother of fairy kei. Most recently fairy kei is the mother of yume Kawaii and yume Kawaii Is the mother of all that is pastel and dreamy.

    1.fairy kei

Fairy kei is a soft sweet dreamy fashion style. It's has a bit of a difference between it's motherly  form of fairy kei  ,spank. Fairy kei style include stuff like soft light pastel colors, tutus, accessories, ice cream prints, teddy bears, shooting pastel stars ,and just sweet pastel fluff and stuff. But don't confuse fairy kei with decora, decora contains lots of layers of clothing and billions and billions of hair and body accessories. They are offten mixed together to make ott fairy kei /fairy kei decora (its on this post).  even though fairy kei and decora can be mixed together know the different between normal fairy kei and fairy kei decora.

     2. pop kei
Pop kei isn't really a form of fairy kei more like a title for all fashion styles that fit the colorful rainbow eye poping aesthetic. If you google pop kei or seach it on tumblr you get images of fairy kei ,decora and other styles similar such as mehera kei . I guess the pop in pop kei stands for eye poping color and style? I know I said earlier that yume Kawaii is the title for anything pastel and dreamy  like larme kei so fairy kei fits under it as well right? Yes I would say so but it also fits under pop kei as well. Spank fairy kei is more pop kei while "normal' fairy kei fits under yume Kawaii.

    3. Spank

My personal favorite spank form of fairy kei was originally a fairy kei brand before fairy kei fashion style even existed? (its something i herd so don't quote me on this either) From what I herd spank is older than fairy kei which means it was the first to come around, so we can say spank is older i guess? But like I was saying spank was originally a Fairy kei brand but it seems to have taken on its own form of fairy kei style because I see a big difference between fairy kei and spank even though spank is still Fairy kei fashion. Spank style includes 80s/90s characters, styles and designs, pastel colors, neon colors, dark colors such as black and grey (don't confuse spank and Fairy kei with pastel goth. Pastel goth looks goth just with pastel colors in it while spank and fairy kei looks more sweeter and innocent looking.) you see alot of 80s characters as well such as popples, jem and the holograms, care bears, my little pony etc , Jean materials such as jean pants , Jean jackets and Jean skirts (most of the time the jean material are bleached to make it look lighter and gives it a softer look but not all the time) , Fannie packs, leg warms, hair scrunches and any 80s/90s things your little heart can think of.

4. casual fairy kei
casual fairy kei is just what it says in it's title casual but still fairy kei. In casual fairy kei your not OTT (over the top ) with it. you don't wear big puffy tutus and not as many accessories or big character designs. you just keep it casual but still pastel and kawaii (cute).

5. Decora OTT  fairy kei

Decora fairy kei is a mixed style between decora fashion and fairy kei fashion. As you can see this style is very over the top with accessories and layers of clothes. this is how decora fashion is. decora fashion comes in many colors such as green, purple, white and even rainbow but when you see pastel decora  its usually fairy kei decora style.  you can create this style by first creating a normal fairy kei style then add on layers of different pastel clothing such as sweaters , t shirts and tutus. then add millions of pastel hair clips and bows to your hair and millions of accessories such as necklaces rings bracelets etc.  now you have your own fairy kei decora style.

6. Fairy lolita

fairy lolita is a mix between fairy kei and sweet lolita style. lolita is fashion based off of the Victorian era fashion style ( lolita fashion is not named after the book lolita or sexual in anyway) since lolita is one of the biggest Japanese fashion styles in the world fairy lolita is simply one of lolitas many sub styles. lolita has 3 main styles classic lolita, sweet lolita, and Gothic lolita. fairy lolita would branch off of sweet lolita as a sub style. as you can see in the pictures there are fairy kei accessories and styles put together with sweet lolita style. adding on fairy kei styled hair clips, necklaces, tights and characters to your sweet lolita style can change it to your very own fairy lolita look. this is my favorite sub style of lolita next to creepy cute lolita.

well I hope you enjoyed learning about fairy kei fashion and I hope this comes in handy for you if you or a friend wanting to start fairy kei or for people simply wanting to learn a little more about a different fashion styles in general. if your having trouble creating any of these styles its best to google ( all the pictures i used on this post is from google as well) pictures of the style you like and study it. look at how they wear some idioms, how there hair clips and bows are placed, what colors go best together etc. you can also follow blogs on tumblr like fairy kei tips, plus sized fairy kei and even my blog natethekawaiichibi if you need any help or just want to look at cute pictures.
thank you for reading
